San Diego Zoo
Adriana Martinez started her career with the San Diego Zoo nearly 30 years ago. In the early years, she helped to develop the first formal recognition program for the world famous zoo, and contributed to a number of other programs that led to increased opportunities and satisfaction for employees. As the Associate Human Resources Director, Martinez focuses on the maintenance of employee/employer relationships that contribute to satisfactory productivity, motivated employees and healthy employee morale. She recognizes that performance management and open communication are key and is responsible for directing human resource programs, including employee relations, recruitment, employment, human resources data management, disputes, employee recognition programs and community relations. She received her formal education in Human Resources at San Diego State University. She is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management and the Human Resources Hospitality Association. In 1998, Martinez was awarded the PRIDE award, followed by the ZooperStar award in 2010 for providing exemplary service to San Diego Zoo Global. Her goals today include fulfilling the organization’s vision of connecting people to wildlife and conservation through ethical Human Resources management, strategic planning, as well as educating all staff levels about the model that lays out the roadmap to increased employee engagement.
